Day 10- Vancouver, BC
Crossing the border. Playing the Hollywood Theater
Last two shows with the Ophelia’s. The tik tok was a big hit.
We crossed into the border no problem. Going into Canada is never the problem. It was Regina, Ben, Jorgen, Trevor and I in the Sprinter. Lilah and Liz flew up early to hang with their families/friends on the day off before the show.
We got to the Hollywood Theater pretty early so we had time to walk around and grab some grub. There was a Greek market down the block so I opted to grab a sandwich from their counter. The closer the restaurant from the venue, the more enticing. It was kebab/gyro wrap and was fast. Super good, plus the CDN to USD rate is 1 to 0.72. Sweet.
We got a buy out of 20 CDN but most places near the venue didn’t take cash. Including the venue? So we exchanged it at Big Jorg’s Currency Exchange. He’s staying a few more days to hang with fam so offered to take on our stray currency.
The Hollywood Theater is rad. Cool neon, Art deco interior, soft edges plushy seats and partially seated. The show was packed and the crowd was awesome. Canada has been a steadily growing market for the EF band. If only they took less of a cut of our show pay.
Also- it was Ben’s birthday! We got him a card and cupcakes and Ezra put him on blast on stage (lol). He handled it nicely and intro’d “I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend”. Chef’s kiss. Also it was Mic’s (Ophelia’s drummer) bday so they did a little thing on stage for him too.
We had to cross back into the US after the show because we had an early KEXP session in Seattle the next morning. The crossing was fine, but we had to get out of the van for a few and they took our mandarin oranges. The US is so god damn serious.
Off to the hotel for a solid 4-5 hours of sleep before a 1.5 hr drive to KEXP studios. WOOF.
